Good morning, This is Topher from
Washington Church of Christ bringing you a message minute.
Many of you are on your way to work right
now. You may be grateful for your job or
enjoy what you do. You may however be
disgruntled, feeling unfulfilled, and unappreciated. For those tough work times, I'd like to share
a quote from Ishmael, one of the characters of Herman Melville's novel, Moby
Dick, as he weighs out his decision to be a lowly sailor at sea.
Ishmael says, "What of it, if some old hunks of a sea-captain orders me to get a
broom and sweep down the decks? What
does that indignity amount to, weighed, I mean, in the scales of the New
Testament? Do you think the archangel
Gabriel thinks anything the less of me, because I promptly and respectfully
Paul addresses the same topic to the Colossian church when he says, "Whatever
you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human
If you find yourself working today, no
matter the job, endeavor to appreciate the ability to work, to do a better than
required job, and work at it with all of your heart. You'll be glad you did.
